Recommendations - video tutorials

Postby 8712kiter » Sat May 15, 2021 9:34 pm

Hi guys

Well, I figured out I need help. Here I am in Fuerte, been practicing my heel to toe jibes for a week on my Whip and Neon 9. I carve through, no problem (well, at least on my goofy side). But I can't get the foot switch. I switch in the second half of the jibe, I come out reverse stance, I switch into the pigeon stance with both feet in the middle of the board, but then all I do is practicing waterstarts.

Can anybody recommend a good video tutorial for directionals e.g. from progression explaining the tricks in detail? Thanks a lot.

Might be best with such a short board to simply work on doing the single hop to the new stance. You will still fall off a lot, but once you get it you will be happier than doing the two-step. The trick for me is to do it on an upstroke of the kite immediately after the gybe, it gives you just enough lift to get your feet around.

Thank you for your nice offer - it is more than welcome.

Yes, I'm at Flagbeach whenever there is some wind and no low tide. Please let me know when you are around.

Yes, I know about this one. Did it help you? Or is it more or less equal to the free YouTube/ Duotone stuff?

Hi Richard,

I will be at Flag this afternoon. I am teaching Winging at 1630, but I should have time before that if you want some tips.

While you are waiting see if this helps;
The ‘trick’ to learning the foot switch is to keep the board quiet. No moving/bouncing around. The key to a quiet board is not moving your center of gravity any more than you have to. Which means feet closer together at the start and not stepping forward with your back foot. Yea, I know you have to but wait.
If you first move your back foot forward you have to take a smaller ‘step’ which helps to keep the board stable when learning. The next part is the one most people get confused with. Try not to think of stepping forward with your back foot into the toe-to-toe stance. This will move your center of gravity forward and make things unnecessarily difficult. Think of it as swiveling your back hip forward and your foot goes with it. It’s not a step, it’s a dance step with very little weight shift forward. Spin, don’t step. This will keep your weight further back and almost force you to move the front foot.
Also, the idea is not to try to do it as quickly as possible but as quietly as possible even if it takes a bit longer at first. As you get more comfortable with it you can speed it up until it can become a single move (jump).
Long but hope it gives you something to visualize while waiting for a lesson or video.

Edit; being over or under powered can change things a fair bit but I didn’t want to over complicate this at first
