reviving WOO 3

Postby deniska » Thu Jun 17, 2021 4:37 am

when my recent woo died I had a suspicion that it could be moisture related.
a hint was ,that it would actually start working for a few minutes after spending 20 minutes in a freezer..
So I decided to crack it open and see if it could be salvaged.
there are 4 screws that would need to be opened or drilled though..
then you should be able (with some effort) to open the back lid and get to the electronics, connectors and battery..
the internals are not sealed in epoxy so they are easy to pull out, clean up and dry
and after that it started to charge and work as expected...
hope it helps to others..

For people with charging issues please only open up the woo only as a last resort.
Always start with cleaning the contacts.
In my experience some invisible corrosion builds up on them every few sessions.
There is probably a good way of cleaning it with contact spray or something but usually I just scratch them a bit and it starts to work.

I also had the woo totally discharged once and it took quite a long time in the charger before the light started blinking (like an hour or something)

Two of my woo3's took water inside. The "waterproof" case let the water flow n and so did the device itself.
Noways I have my woo wrapped inside of waterproof tape, I wish it lasts longer this time.
