9m Orbit and 9m Pivot Quiver

Postby TimG » Fri Jul 30, 2021 3:04 pm

Hey everyone,

I am looking at changing my and my wife's kite quiver. I weigh 79 Kg (173 lb) and my wife weighs 65 Kg (135 lb).

I was thinking of having the following quiver:
15-20 knots: I am on 12m rebel and she is on 9m pivot
20-25: I am on 9m pivot to do loops and she is on 9m orbit
25-30: I am on 9m orbit and she is on 7m rebel

I now have two questions:
1. How is the 9m pivot low end? Could a 135 lb rider use it for 15-20 knots?'
2. Everyone says that the 9m orbit likes to be lit up to be fun (25+ knots). The question I have is does that apply to all riders? If my wife took the 9m orbit out in 20-25 knots, would it still not fly well?

I want to do the set up with the 9s because it will also allow me to do loops in 20-25 knots with the pivot and loops with the orbit in 25-30 knots.

Thanks in advance!

I have pivots and have also ridden orbits. The low end is better on the pivot but at 70kg I won’t rig the 9 until 18 knots mininum, anything less and I’m on 11m.

I think you are overestimating the low end on the 9m pivot. I would say 10 or 11m pivot for 15-18 knots for her.

I think kitedicted is right. That said, low end is super individual and it depends on board, skill, and consistency of the wind. Personally, I like to have power, so I would wait until more windy...I am also not 135lb so there is that.

My wife is 55 kilos and she is rides the 9m Orbit around 18-25 knots and is having much fun. Above 25 knots she is riding the 7m Orbit.

I can ride the Orbit with 75kilos in 18 knots as well. It is not mich fun but the kite don’t feel different to a 9m Evo for example. Starting with 20-30 knots the 9m is getting really fun. In 25 knots I am able to jump around 10-13 meters with ease.

So don’t think to much about People saying the Orbit is no fun in the lower range. That’s right, but that’s not that bad at all. I go with the 9m foiling too in around 13 knots+ And it works well.

But I am talking about the actual Modell.

I am 76 kg / 167 lbs and I ride the Pivot 9 from 15-16 knots on a 135/41 cm board, So I think your wife will have no problems using it in 15-20 knots.
But I kite in colder climate (Denmark), so 15-20 knots up here in scandinavia is probably more powerful than 15-20 knots in Texas or Florida.

I agree that the 9m orbit still works in the same range as a 9m pivot, but is more fun in the mid range and up. To me a 9m pivot in 15 knots sounds sounds underpowered for 76kg? I am also in Scandinavia.
