I would say it's more about covering your different styles of riding rather having a range of sizes - though size is important too. I started with a standard freeride board and changed it up as i progressed and realized what I needed. Now I have a 136 rrd bliss for big air, a 146 shinn king gee for light wind and a 143 slingshot refraction for freestyle. I don't have much for waves where I live so that covers the bases pretty well.
I've also found that I really enjoy bigger twin tips in general. I think the standard board sizing is too small and most people would benefit from sizing up. You get used to the size really quick and gain upwind performance, lightwind ability and carry more speed for unhooking. Unless you're doing super lit big air you don't need a tiny board.

Shinn Bronq Luigi 135/41
Jaime SLS 142/43
please danlar you can do a small comparative between your two boards?
I have a Bronq Luigi too! mine 136x42, and from some time I'm very curious if the Jaime SLS is nearly as comfortable like the Bronq Luigi (ok are very different sizes so probably can't be done a real comparative)
my boards are:
Shinn Bronq V1 135x41
Shinn Bronq Luigi 136x42
Shinn Bronq XL 148x47
HF Lift 200 classic
f-one Signature 5.8

One twintip: boots, plenty of rocker and sizes to make up for it… 140x42
Two surfboards: 5’11” 26 L squash tail thruster for decent waves, 5’8” 30 L quad fish for mush.
One foil: 1100cm2 Lift 170 classic

Shared with wife Nomad wave TT quiver. Me 200 pounds, wife 135.
138 x 38.5 dedicated to wife
140 x 40
143 x 42.5
153 x 43
Use them all regularly, with sail quiver of 6/7/8/9/10/12/14. If i would change anything it would be the 42.5 that may eventually be changed for 41.5
We travel a fair bit so need to cover a large spectrum of conditions. Only bring the large board if I expect to encounter 14 m conditions. The 6m gets litle use but…Columbia/Brazil necessity for my wife.

137x41 Kold Shapes Polar II for >= 25kn
140x42.5 Fone Wtf + Vadatek Boots for < 25kn
The Wtf gets going pretty early cause the middle section of the rocker is quite flat.
Want to get into foiling next summer.

Hi archer
My regular spot in Ecuador is at open sea, very rough water, I prefer my bigger board, more efficient. My small board is only when I travel to a spot more quiet, not open sea, and I do travel a lot because it’s cheap living here
