Hey everyone
So I have a friend who just finished a lessons and course and he is now at the point of learning how to stand on the board.
He is 83 KG over 1.83 height. He is a gym instructorso I guess it’s mean he will maybe get it kinda fast if that’s matter..
He is low on budget and we found him a deal of an Fone bandit size 12 from 2014 + bar and Fone board 135X40
All in 900$
It’s his first equipment and the seller says it’s in very good condition and barley used.. and he will mostly go to the beach in 12-18 knots..
We are just afraid that the kite will thorn in the first crushes but will be more than glad to hear your opinions
Thanks a lot

IMHO The kite is to be old for that kind of money.
Something that’s soon to be 8 years old will likely have issues with the plastics (even if it’s not used it will delaminate).
Expect to need to re glue all the valves.
I would personally also look at a 14m kite and a bigger board.
12-18 knots is not a lot for 80+ kg and this set.
With the 12m and that board it’s probably just about rideable at 15+

My first kite from 2014 I believe is still flying. Sold a couple of times since I sold it. But I paid usd 1100 for kite, bar, harness and board back in 2016 or something. With little use.
So I guess I agree with Leeuwen that 900 sounds quite expensive.

Being a gym instructor will surely help him hold the edge when overpowered than being a beginner ride upwind underpowered.
I'd go for 13-14m and 141-145cm low rocker board.

From some reason I want to say FOne was double front line safety until 2017?
Probably wrong, but it's a bad deal even without a potentially blah safety system.

The board is way to small for a beginner, it will be hard to progress.

I don't think the board is too small, but the pricing is way off.
I think a 2014 12kite with a bar completely unused maybe is worth 400 USD ???

I didn't even think of the board size. I would agree with danlar that is on the small side for a beginner.
Even more so when you are probably tall enough to use the most outer placement of the pads. Not a huge deal, but the "wings" of the board will then become very short. At least personally I don't like it when the "wings" (not sure what the correct word is - if there is any) become too short.

I agree that the price is too high and the board is too small for a beginner. If the equipment is in "perfect" used condition, it's probably worth $550-600 USD due to its age ($250 for kite, $50 for bar/lines, $250-300 for board). He'll also need a harness (another $100-200 for a new "economy" harness). Beginner board size for his height and weight should be 140-144 cm x 40-43 cm.
