Best 10m kites

Postby Rklein » Tue Jan 11, 2022 7:00 pm

Hi all, my first post here.

I’m look to upgrade my quiver after 2 years of surfing with used equipment.

I started jumping including some modest jumping transitions and backrolls. And I’m looking for a 10m
Kite that will help me get to the next level and serve me well even for the next stage.

Since there are so many kinds I thought I’d reach the masses. So please add your candidate and a reason why ☺️

Any all around 3-strut that you can get for a good price. Every brand has one.

Eg. Duotone Evo, North Reach, Reedin Supermodel, Core Nexus, etc, etc, etc.

As for reasons why:
1. They're all fairly similar and at your level you won't notice a difference freeriding.
2. See #1
3. See #1

Easiest recommendation I've ever done :).

I 100% agree with this advice. Naish Pivot and Ozone Enduro are more examples of such a kite. All of them with have subtle differences, but they're all good at doing a bit of everything.

I agree with the comments above but also don’t sleep on the switchblade. If you look around a bit you can get a new 10m for under $1000 which will be hard to do with any other kite.

Hey,
So I have never bought a new kite, I have 2011, 2012, 2013 Blade Triggers and LF NV 2015 and 2016. All of these were bought with significant repairs done on them. I am happy with them and I think they fly great.
So I was wondering, If I were to buy a new 2021 Blade Trigger, would it rock my world and be so much better than what I have?
Could anybody shine a light on that? Much appreciated.

Probably but not because the new designs are SO much better, although they are somewhat better. But also because older kites have bridles and canopies that are stretched and don’t fly the same as when they were new. So, overall there will be a noticeable difference, yes.

Yes.

Although, I haven't flown any Blades to be able to comment on that specific kite/brand. I can say there have been significant improvements across the industry to make kiting easier and safer in the past 10 years. Go to a demo day or borrow a mate's kite for a session.

Also, kites start losing their shape a little and their bridles stretch/shrink in odd ways.

Edit: Knotwindy got in before I did - sorry for the double post.

You should go for a 10m Rebel or XR7.

If you are already doing small jumps, they will help you get bigger jumps while still being easy. The Evo is also a good choice, def a friendly kite. I have not flown a Reach but its supposedly the easy going kite in the North lineup.

I would NOT encourage you into a Supermodel/Pivot (the two are almost the same) or an Open C design like an Enduro, they take more skill. GO have FUN while you skill up.

+1 for Cabrinha Switchblade - easy to fly, great for boosting, killer low end, and will support tons of progression in the sport. I believe a Switchblade was used by Nick Jacobsen to win the Red Bull King of the Air in 2017.
