I'm changing jobs and have the opportunity to take a few weeks off between the new start date. Where would you recommend for a single traveller, for a few weeks at the start of Jan? travelling from UK, thanks Luke. Is Costa Rica a good choice?

YES!!
It's been more than 15 years since I last went there, but January has great winds and I'm sure the spot itself also grew. And bring your small kite!
Alo anywhere in the Caribbean would be a good choice, but CR has more wind for sure
Enjoy!

Costa will have wind pretty much every day around 20-25 knots. I'd suggest Columbia though as well. Most of the spots have a bit more going on then costa rica and to my knowledge the spots are better in a variety of ways.

Costa Rica is not a windy place except for 2 small spots Bahia Salinas and Lake Arenal. Those are small and remote spots with not much around.
