Workout app? YouTube channel?

Postby Horrorlon » Mon Jan 23, 2023 7:41 pm

Christmas etc is over. I want to start exercising again. so far this has meant chest presses, leg presses and various other machines in the studio. But I'm looking for a workout that primarily appeals to the muscles that kiting also appeals to. So also more core, balance and jumping exercises etc. I guess maximum power increase is rather useless for kite purposes. Len10 once had an app with his workout. unfortunately it doesn't exist anymore. can someone recommend me a good app, YouTube channel with various workouts? doesn't have to be kiting on it :D any other one will do too. But there are so many different

Check out the Duotone Academy app, I think they have something there. Not sure though.

Its all about what you are after, but I find the Alo app to be pretty good for my purposes. It has a lot of bodyweight strength, HIIT, and core workouts in addition to vast libraries of yoga and pilates. The mobile app, and desktop interface are both very good. Definitely nothing kite specific, but the workouts are certainly applicable. It is a paid subscription, but at least when I started there was a free trial.

I too would like to know of any specific exercises that are good to keep in shape during the kitesurfing off season.

For winging I created my own upper body strength workout on my Garmin Fenix 6 watch. For lower body I cycle outdoors (can't stand stationary cycling indoors). I'm looking to build strength (without too much bulk) and stamina.

If you go to a gym, you might ask one of the trainers for suggestions (may have to explain to him/her the rigors of kitesurfing).

Work on mobility mostly. Your legs core and lower back for most people is what you need to mainly focus on. If it is for unhooking then upper back and shoulders. But over all you want mobility and your core. I do not lift like I used too but all I work on now is range of motion and light lifting to maintain as much muscle as I can as I wade thru my middle aged years.

If money is not an option then I would say just get a Tonal and do the routines they give. Most things you will find on line will be more for bodybuilding. You could look at workouts for sports like Tennis, gymnastics, even swimming share the same muscle groups.

Mackiting did a vid on this, it mainly concentrated on stamina, running, skipping, push ups, crunches etc. Imo strength doesn't really feature that much stamina and mobility are more relevant.

Lots come up on YouTube
'kitesurf workout'

Core, balance, mobility are key for everyone.

Unhooked/freestyle work the upper body.

Try kboges. I like his KISS approach to workouts.

If you think you're in pretty good shape, check out Chris Heria. You'll soon find out that you in fact are not. LOL
